Making a Will is simple and straightforward. Having a Free Will brings you peace of mind that your affairs are in order and your family’s future is secured. If you’re aged 55 or over you can get your Will written for free, thanks to Marie Curie’s partnerships.
A gift left in your Will can help make sure that a Marie Curie Nurse will be there for even more people living with a terminal illness.
Things to consider when making a Free Will
Step one
Decide who you’d like your executors to be. Your executors will be the people responsible for ensuring your wishes are fulfilled. You should normally appoint at least two executors in your Will, in case one is unwilling or unable to act for you when the time comes.
Step two
Calculate the value of your assets, including property, investments and any debts.
Step three
Choose the family members, friends or charities that you’d like to remember, and what type of gift you’d like to leave. Many people choose a percentage of their estate, but your solicitor can talk you through your options.
Step four
Visit a solicitor to have your Will drawn up. Your solicitor will keep a copy of your Will, but you might like a copy of your own. Keep it somewhere safe.
Step five
Give your executors a copy of your Will and a list of your property and possessions, or let them know where to find this information.
Step six
Make sure you review and update your Will whenever your circumstances change.
